Int'l Ramayana On Show In Bangkok In Honour Of Thai King

BANGKOK, November 30 (TNA) - Thailand and international allied nations, including other member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), will jointly present "Ramayana", a most wellknown ancient Sanskrit epic in Asia, on public show in Bangkok this month, in honour of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King's 84th birthday on December 5. Thai Culture Minister Sukumol Kunplome has publicly introduced the special show, jointly produced by her ministry and other co-sponsors from India, where the classic "Ramayana" literature was originated, as well as eight other ASEAN neighbours, including Cambodia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Laos, Singapore and Indonesia. Sukumol said that the international performance will be opened to the public, free of charges, at the National Theater in the Thai capital on December 5 at 4pm, December 6-7 at 7pm and on December 9 at 1pm, with all groups of interested audience welcome to call 662-2241342 for further information. According to the Thai culture minister, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will be among the distinguished and general audience at a special round of the show, organised on December 9 at 8pm, during which the Thai Princess, the third child of the revered Thai monarch, will also perform the Ranad Ek or the Thai alto xylophone. The Thai minister acknowledged that additional activities, including Khon, a traditional Thai performance, religious ceremonies and planting of trees, will also be part of the international performance, reflecting participation from all sectors in paying tribute to and grand celebrating the beloved Thai monarch's 7th-cycle birthday anniversary.
