Interior Minister receives EU Special Representative for Human Rights

Manama, May 28 (BNA): Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa received today the EU Special Representative for Human Rights Stavros Lambrinidis, in the presence of the Interior Ministry Undersecretary and Public Security Chief. He lauded strong relations between Bahrain and the EU, stressing Bahrain's openness and commitment to enforcing the law on all. He underlined the ministry's efforts to preserve national unity and achievements, rejecting any divisions or classification of the components of the Bahraini society. The Interior Minister pointed out that freedom of expression is guaranteed for all within the framework of the state of law and institutions, adding that the current parliament reflects the real image of the Bahraini society. He also expressed resolve to go ahead with the comprehensive development and modernisation process through a comprehensive programme to upgrade the security work. The Public Security Chief presented a briefing on the Interior Ministry's development and modernisation strategy through intensive training and cutting edge equipment. He also spotlighted the security and legal measures taken to deal with the recent troublemaking in the Reform and Rehabilitation Centre. The meeting was attended by the Interior Ministry Security Media and Legal Affairs Directors.
