Interior Minister receives British delegation

Manama, Apr14(BNA)Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa today received a parliamentary delegation from the UK House of Commons and House of Lords, led by Lord Clive Soley. Minister of State for Interior Affairs Major-General Adel bin Khalifa Al-Fadhel and Public Security Chief Major-General Tariq Hassan Al-Hassan attended. The minister hailed bilateral relations bonding the two countries, briefing the delegation on the ministry's efforts to develop the security sector. He cited training plans as part of the reform project led by His Majesty the King to enhance police performance. He also highlighted HM the King's keenness on building a modern state and providing decent living standards for citizens and residents. He affirmed Bahrain's civilized approach in solving homeland security problems through respecting human rights and freedoms. Public Security Chief Major-General Tariq Hassan Al-Hassan briefed the British delegation on the current security situation in Bahrain as well as the ministry’s strategy and development programmes. He highlighted the establishment of the General Secretariat of Ombudsmen and the plans and programmes to reinforce human rights. He pointed out the establishment of community police and the equipment of interrogation and detention centres with surveillance cameras and audio-visual devices. The British delegation hailed the reforms and development strides in Bahrain, stressing the need to exchange expertise so as to combat terrorism and prevent crime. A H N
