Infrastructure work on Georgian section of BTK railway continues

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept.1 By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend: Infrastructure work on the Georgian section of the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line is being carried out in an active mode, the administration of the Georgian side of the BTK project told Trend. “At the moment, our general contractor, the Georgian branch of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, is carrying out infrastructure and commissioning work, and the construction of snow shields and fences is under way,” the source said. According to the Georgian side of the project, testing of the installed signaling, centralization, blocking and communication systems is also underway. “In the entire Georgian section, measures are being taken to bring it in line with safety norms and standards. We are working hard to complete the work before the onset of cold weather," said the Georgian officials. Meanwhile, a mechanized point for unloading large-tonnage containers has been created on the Georgian section of the railway, which is equipped with a crane with a lifting capacity of 46 tons. The BTK railway has been built on the basis of the Azerbaijani-Georgian-Turkish intergovernmental agreement.
