Indonesian Cultural Parade Enlivens Hungray's Children's Day

JAKARTA, May 31 (Antara) - An Indonesian cultural parade enlivened Hungary's Children's Day commemoration held at the Varosligeti Square, Budapest, Sunday, May 28, 2017, according to a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Budapest received by Antara here, Tuesday. The cultural parade featured Indonesian children wearing traditional attire from various regions across the country accompanied by traditional musical performances of gamelan and angklung. The commemoration of Children's Day is an annual event organized by the Budapest city administration. Apart from Indonesia, friendly countries -- India, Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait, Palestine, Japan, China, Norway, Latvia, Ukraine, and several Latin American nations -- participated in the event. Indonesian Ambassador to Hungary Wening Esthyprobo was the only foreign ambassador who attended the commemoration event. "I am very happy that we can introduce Indonesia to the children. I am optimistic that they will remember our small cultural parade," the ambassador said. According to Ambassador Esthyprobo, promotions highlighting Indonesia should be directed mostly to children, as they are expected to become the future leaders. Hence, the main cultural program of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Budapest is directed to Hungary's younger generation through the "Indonesia Goes to School" program and the Hungarian national level junior badminton championship, the Suparmadi Cup. The ambassador believes that increasing understanding of the children and Hungarian people, in general, through straightforward and interesting ways can help to introduce Indonesia effectively. Hungarian Parliament speaker Laszló Kover visited the Indonesian booth set up for the celebration of Children's Day and tried playing angklung, a traditional bamboo musical instrument from West Java.
