Indonesia To Assist Afghanistan By Offering Counter-Terrorism Training
JAKARTA, March 16 (Antara) - The Indonesian National Police will assist the government of Afghanistan by offering counterterrorism training and antiterrorism detection equipment.
The assistance is part of an agreement on counterterrorism cooperation.
The cooperation was agreed during the Chiefs of Police Conference of South Asia and Neighbouring Countries held in the city of Dhaka, Bangladesh, Tuesday (Mar 14).
National Police Deputy Chief Comr. Gen. Syafruddin represented the Indonesian delegation at the forum.
Police chiefs or senior police representatives of 14 countries, including India, China, South Korea, Myanmar, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Afghanistan, and representatives of six organizations, which include Facebook, the FBI, and Australian Federal Police, took part in the conference held at a city hotel from Mar 12.
Deputy for Security Affairs of the Ministry of Afghanistan Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahman sent a special letter to Indonesian Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian regarding assistance for combating terrorism.
In his letter, the government of Afghanistan has sought assistance in the form of uniforms, vests, communication equipment, and training for the anti-terror force.
In addition, Afghanistan's Home Affairs Ministry has sought assistance for training intelligence officers and for obtaining uniforms and equipment for the criminal department.
In response to the letter, National Police Deputy Chief Comr Gen. Syafruddin pledged to respond to the adjuration.
"We will assist the government of Afghanistan in tackling terrorism," he added.
