IISS holds high-level meeting

Manama, Sept. 10 (BNA): Diplomats from 35 foreign embassies convened a high-level preparatory meeting at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) headquarters to discuss an upcoming security summit. The envoys were taking part in an "Ambassadors’ Roundtable" ahead of the IISS’ 11th Regional Security Summit: The Manama Dialogue 2015, which will be held in Bahrain on October 30. Key topics on the agenda for discussion at the four-hour long preparatory meeting yesterday included "The Middle East After The Iran Deal" and "Can The Islamic State Be Defeated Or Contained?". Bahrain-based IISS executive director John Jenkins and senior fellow for regional security Emile Hokayem chaired the meeting. Jenkins said that the topics covered are integral to the agenda and discussions that will be held at this year’s Manama Dialogue. He said these are issues of regional and global significance and concern, and this preparatory meeting helps officials and IISS experts observe perspectives and expectations related to the issues of the hour.
