HRH Premier's message on UN Day

Oct. 22 (BNA): In a message marking the United Nations Day on Saturday October 23, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa stressed the need to stave off terrorism, urging a more effective international cooperation and tools to confront it. He stressed that extremism came on top of the cross-cutting issues that undermine global security and stability, saying it was threatening global peace and security and that its impacts go beyond regional national borders. He urged more effective international cooperation to confront it. He also asserted that the international community, seventy years after the establishment of the United Nations Organisation and in light of current global developments and challenges, has become in an urgent need to re-evaluate international cooperation and develop more effective mechanisms to meet the aspirations of the world peoples for security and stability and attainment of sustainable development goals. "The world is in need for more understanding and interaction between Member States of the United Nations for the common good and stability of the peoples of the world," he said. "It is fortunate that the United Nations is celebrating this day, which coincides with its seventieth anniversary, particularly since the supreme principles and objectives of the UN Charter brought about a significant shift in terms of coordination of collective action to serve humanity and created a formula for sustainable cooperation that reflects the peoples’ genuine need for security, stability and development. ", he added. "The celebration of United Nations Day is an occasion to renew the international community's commitment to the spirit and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, and draw attention to the urgent need to develop new mechanisms for cooperation and coordination that would ensure a more secure and stable life to humans everywhere.", said the premier. He stressed that the United Nations, throughout its long history, has succeeded in establishing an effective international model in the face of many crises, and proved its ability to deal with many of the files that had emerged in the aftermath of World War II in the middle of the last century. "Its workforces and those who have dedicated their lives to serve its noble objectives offered enormous sacrifices in order to secure a safe haven for the innocent victims of wars and conflicts at dangerous areas of the world. he confirmed. He went on to say that the size of current threats and challenges, escalating bloody conflicts, and humanitarian crises has become an increasing burden that restrains the ability of the United Nations to move around and meet its obligations. "Indeed, this calls upon the international community to give more support to the UN efforts in face of those challenges, stressed HRH Premier. He said that new mechanisms are needed to help that the United Nations to play more effective role at conflict and war zones, and achieve global security and stability. "We look forward to seeing a world where communities are enjoying love, prosperity, peace, coexistence and tolerance. We also look forward to the day when the world will have made big and conscious steps forward towards accomplishing sustainable development in emerging countries and ending human suffering everywhere and anywhere. This is one of the highest and noblest goals", he added. HRH Premier urged the international community to focus more on supporting developing countries and poor communities to achieve sustainable development, as a platform to backing security and global stability, and that this should be within the framework of collective action aimed at ensuring a better future. He also asserted that supporting development efforts is the only way to achieve a better life for millions of people. He said that failure of rich countries to extend a helping hand to the needy ones would double the size of human calamities and displacement operations that threaten global security and stability. He pointed out that the adoption of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and follow-up of the steps being done along the way of their implementation had been one of the bright spots in the process of United Nations work. "The UN efforts must continue to implement the 2015 Development Plan with the same level of enthusiasm and determination to confront poverty faced by many communities, he affirmed. He went on to commend the development achievements of the Kingdom of Bahrain under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which have helped the Kingdom attain the Millennium Development Goals, and move forward towards a more prosperous future. In this regard, he pointed out that Bahrain was ranked high on the list of countries in terms of human development. His Highness praised the level of cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Nations and its dedicated programmes, which expresses the Kingdom’s significant approach in meeting its obligations, and highlights its efforts in terms of promoting international cooperation, peace and security. In conclusion, HRH the premier praised the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon and all employees of the Organisation and its specialised agencies for their efforts in serving mankind and promoting global peace and security.
