HH Sheikha Moza Decides to Appoint Faisal Al-Suwaidi As President of Research and Development at QF

Doha, January 10 (QNA) -Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, on Tuesday issued a decision to the appointment of Faisal Mohammed Al-Suwaidi as President of Research and Development at QF. In his new role, Al-Suwaidi will be responsible for all QF's activities relating to scientific research and development, including projects that fall under Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), and the Qatar Research Institutes, which form an umbrella organization for Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI), Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) and Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI). Additionally, Al-Suwaidi will oversee the development of executive plans for future research strategies at QF, thus ensuring the growth of scientific research in Qatar. Al-Suwaidi's illustrious career began almost four decades ago when he began working for Qatar Petroleum (QP), rising to become QP's Administration Director. In 1992 he was appointed as Managing Director of Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO), and in 1997 he became the Vice Chairman and CEO of Qatargas. During his tenure at Qatargas, Al-Suwaidi oversaw the construction and realization of Qatargas LNG trains 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, as well as the Laffan Refinery. The LNG trains are the largest in the world, while Laffan is also the largest condensate refinery in the world. During this period, Al-Suwaidi also oversaw the construction of the largest LNG carrier fleet in the world, which consisted of 56 ships. The QF said in a press release issued here today that Al-Suwaidi will contribute to QF's mission of unlocking human potential by promoting QF's research initiatives, which are a key aspect in transforming Qatar's carbon based economy to one based on knowledge.(QNA)
