HH Sheikha Moza Attends Launch of Gulf Women Book
Doha, January 16 (QNA) - HH the Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development Sheikha Moza bint Nasser attended Tuesday evening the launch of Gulf Women Book at Georgetown University in Education City.
Published by Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing (BQFP), the book presents a multifaceted history of women in the Gulf, both before and after Islam. This robust volume of 15 essays by 12 contributors was edited by Professor Amira Sonbol.
The event launched by a speech delivered by Dean Gerd Nonneman of Georgetown University's SFS-Q and Director of Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing Hanouf Al Buainain.
Professor Amira Sonbol appreciated HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser for her own quest for research to come out with this project, adding that Her Highness was a source of inspiration for her and her colleagues who wrote the book.
The book's chapters create a timeline that guides the reader through the ancient, the medieval, the early modern and the contemporary periods of Arabian Gulf history. Sonbol wrote a chapter for the book titled "The Family in Gulf History." (QNA)
