HH the Qatar Emir Patronizes Meeting of Heads of Diplomatic Missions Abroad

Doha, August 19 (QNA) - HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani today patronized the inauguration of the first annual meeting of heads of diplomatic, consular and representation missions of the State of Qatar which opened this morning at Sheraton Doha Hotel. The opening session was attended by HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani. It was also attended by HE the Foreign Minister Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah and heads of diplomatic, consular and representation missions of the State of Qatar abroad. Addressing the opening session, HH the Emir praised the efforts of the Qatari diplomats abroad and commended the role of the diplomatic corps' personnel in enhancing relations and cooperation between the State of Qatar and world countries and in strengthening and developing relations in various fields. HH the Emir also stressed the continuation of the protection and care for the interests of the state and citizens abroad, as well as the work to overcome and facilitate all the obstacles faced by citizens in all sincerity in order to meet their needs, wishing the representatives of the State of Qatar abroad every success in the tasks assigned to them. For his part, HE the Foreign Minister Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah gave a speech in which he referred to the modern renaissance taking place in the state in various fields as well as the need to deal with the regional and international events and developments and their various manifestations, adding that the prestigious status which the State of Qatar enjoyed at the local, regional and international levels puts us all at a difficult test and encircles our necks with a heavy responsibility that requires us to move forward towards improving performance and sensing the duty which is commensurate with the status of our country. Dr. Khalid al-Attiyah said this meeting is a key tributary to the activation of the role of diplomatic missions abroad in order to carry out their duties and responsibilities in accordance with the aspirations and ambitions of the wise leadership in the process of development and modernization of the foreign ministry's work, through the discussion of ways to promote and activate the diplomatic work to keep pace with the era of innovation. The meeting also provided an opportunity for the heads of diplomatic missions to meet with their peers, the officials in other government bodies in the state to coordinate work and to remove any obstacles that may hinder the interests of the country, Dr. Khalid Al-Attiyah added. The conference aims to strengthen the role of the ministry in promoting the tasks assigned to it in the context of the implementation of the state's foreign policy and upgrading it to the levels that meet the aspirations of the State in promoting international relations and in developing the methods and procedures to respond to them through modern diplomatic methods. Such methods should have solid pillars in order to provide the state with ways and means of dealing with the challenges and changes taking place within the international community in a manner that preserves national interests and strengthen the interaction and coordination between the ministry's headquarters and the diplomatic, consular and representation missions.(QNA)
