HE Qatar Prime Minister Hopes to See Arab Observers' Mission a Success

Washington, January 11 (QNA) - HE Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani said that the mission of Arab observers in Syria has not succeeded. But he expressed the hope to see it a success. This came during a joint press conference between HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in Washington with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that was held following their joint talks that discussed the latest developments in the region, especially the situation in Syria. HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani said it is clear that the Syrian government is not ready to cooperate to resolve the crisis, adding that the what is needed now is to stop killings, withdraw armed forces, release detainees, allow the media to enter and ensure their safety. Until now we have not seen an end to killings and have not seen an implementation to what agreed upon with the Arab League under its protocol, HE the Prime Minister added. He explained that the Arab League Committee on Syria is awaiting an assessment to be submitted by the mission in Damascus, pointing out that there will be a meeting soon on 19 or 20 January to consider the areas where cooperation is possible and how to solve this problem. It is now clear after the attack on observers yesterday that the Syrian government is not prepared to change its approach to cooperation to resolve the crisis in accordance with the desire of the Syrian people, he added. HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister added that the observers' report will be very important to taking the right decision. He expressed his hope to see the crisis be solved through Arab efforts, adding said that the Syrian government did not help Arab observers. (QNA)
