HE AL-Sada : We Are Mulling to Enter Into Energy Projects in Egypt
Doha, January 03 (QNA) - HE Minister of Energy & Industry Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, who is also Chairman & Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum (QP) has said that QP is now mulling to enter into energy projects in Egypt noting that a progress has been achieved in talks held in this concern and voiced hope that a final accord will be reached soon .
HE Al Sada made clear in remarks he gave to reporters here Tuesday on the margins of the launching ceremony of the energy and industry sector s first-ever "Sustainable Development Industry (SDI) Report" for the State of Qatar'', that it would be officially announced about any of these projects once a relevant official and final accord is reached.
Concerning the presence of energy projects with Jordan or any intention to sign a contract to sell Qatari gas to Jordan, HE Al Sada told the audience that he would meet with the Jordanian Energy Minister here today to discuss possible cooperation between the two countries in this sector.
Aligned with both the Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030) designed by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani and the National Development Strategy (NDS), the SDI report covers the various sustainability initiatives and projects undertaken by energy & industry stakeholders operating in the country, HE Al Sada told the ceremony attendants.
HE Minister of Energy & Industry further said that a total of 17 energy & industry stakeholders, in addition to QP, had participated in the report by submitting information on their sustainability initiatives from 2009 to 2010 to QP s HSE Regulations and Enforcement Directorate. This information summarizes the priorities and progress achieved in the energy and industry sector in regards to the implementation of various sustainable development programmes, HE the minister added.
In his keynote address, HE Dr. Al-Sada stressed on the importance of this report as another strategic milestone for Qatar s energy and industry sector. "Through sustainability reporting, energy & industry stakeholders can demonstrate their commitment to the long-term growth and development of the sector while ensuring the alignment of their operations with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2011-2016," he said.
The launch of the SDI report was followed by an appreciation ceremony, during which HE Dr. Al-Sada honoured the 17 companies with certificates of appreciation.
The companies that were given recognition were Dolphin Energy, Maersk Oil, Nakilat, Occidental Petroleum, Oryx GTL, Qatar Chemical Company, Qatar Fertiliser Company, Qatar Fuel Additives Company, Qatar Petrochemical Company, Qatar Shell, Qatar Vinyl Company, Qatargas, Ras Girtas Power Company, RasGas, Seef Ltd., Total E&P Qatar, and Wintershall Holding.
HE Dr. Al-Sada went on to express his gratitude to the 17 companies for their dedication and contributions to the SDI report, and he also stressed that all operators and companies working in the energy & industry sector should submit their own sustainable development report by 2012.
In addition to the senior officials of the 17 companies, also present at the ceremony was Saif Saed Al-Naimi, Director of QP s HSE Regulations & Enforcement Directorate (DG), who expressed his gratitude and appreciation to HE Dr. Al-Sada for his support to this initiative and his continuous encouragement for all activities related to sustainable development.
Al-Naimi also thanked the participating companies for their contributions and discussed the directorate s plan in the preparation of future reports.
"A reporting timetable will be enhanced over the next five years and will recognise the efforts of all operators via a ranking-and-award system for all the companies that have submitted their reports on time, and this will be implemented for the next reporting period," Al-Naimi said.
Elaborating he said, "Moreover, the directorate will also manage this reporting initiative over a longer-term to further enhance the industry sustainable development actions and reporting and thereby prove the energy and industry sector's commitment to achieve the National Vision 2030." (QNA)
