HE Al Mahmoud Reviews Next Stage in Darfur Peace Process

Doha, July 02 (QNA) - HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmad bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud met on Monday with Dr. Ameen Hassan Omar, the State Minister at the Sudanese Presidency and Head of Darfur Peace Follow-Up Office; and Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the head of the joint United Nations-African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and Joint Chief Mediator, in the course of their current visit to Doha. During the meeting, they reviewed the next stage in Darfur peace process in light of the huge and rapid steps made in the implementation of the Doha Document. They welcomed the agreement between the Sudanese government and the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM), in presence of the UNAMID, to amend the schedules for the implementation stipulated in the Doha Document for the peace in Darfur, which will be signed this week. They also took note that the amendment for including the Doha Document for peace in Darfur in the Sudanese constitution will be included today. Talks during the meeting also addressed the consultations made between the joint mediation, chaired by Qatar, with other movements that have not join the peace process in Doha in order to urge them join the process. The coming period will witness further contacts with these movements, especially since some of them have shown a clear response with the joint mediation efforts to enter into peace on the basis of the Doha Document. It is expected that meetings to make arrangements for this topic will be held after the holy month of Ramadan. The discussions during the meeting also covered the ongoing preparations to hold the Doha International Conference for Darfur Reconstruction and Development. (QNA)
