HE Al-Mahmoud Addresses Extraordinary Meeting of Darfur Peace Follow-up Office

Doha, June 04 (QNA) -HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, described as a "heinous crime", the killing of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) leader, Mohammed Bashar Ahmed, and his deputy, Suleiman Arko Dahiya, targetting the peace process and people of Darfur . The aforesaid sudanese officials were killed after signing the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) with the Sudanese government and the capturing a number of the JEM members by the JEM faction led by Jibril Ibrahim, on May 12. Addressing the opening session of the extraordinary meeting of the Darfur Peace Follow-up Office committee ,HE Al Mahmoud, said , "We confirm to the armed groups that their activities will not dessuade the mediation from the peaceful settlement option in Darfur as well as our support to the efforts exerted by people of Darfur in order to realize a just and lasting peace. " The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs pointed out that these groups have chosen the course of violence and refused to join the peace process , insisting meantime on war and killing the honorable citizens of Darfur . He conveyed condolences of the aforesaid committee to the families of the victims, the peacemakers who sacrificed themselves in order to raise the voice of peace. HE Al- Mahmoud has called on the international community and the peace partners to condemn this act considering it a flagrant violation of the principles of international humanitarian law, and human rights ,noting that most of the regional and international organizations including the African Union(AU) ,the Arab League and the United Nations which have condemned this heinous act which represent a flagrant breach of peace and security.(QNA)
