HCFC Phase-out Management launch on Wednesday

Manama, Sept. 15 (BNA): The Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE) will tomorrow (Sep. 16) launch a national strategy to gradually reduce Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) which cause the depletion of the ozone layer. The HCFC Phase-out Management Plan will be inaugurated under the auspices of His Majesty’s Personal Representative, (SCE) President Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al-Khalifa. The national blueprint marks The United Nations (UN) International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer and the 30th anniversary of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, a multilateral environmental agreement which was was agreed upon at the Vienna Conference of 1985 and entered into force in 1988. A workshop will be held on the sidelines of the launch ceremony, bringing together senior officials representing ministries and national companies and institutions, which played a key role in in drawing up the draft strategy for the coming five years. The roadmap reflect the SCE-led dedicated efforts to charter a national roadmap which will contribute to protecting human health and the environment, ban Ozone depleting gases and promote environment-friendly lower GWP alternatives.
