Government will spare no effort to boost citizens' welfare

Manama, Sept. 14 (BNA): Information Minister Isa bin Abdulrahman Al Hammadi stressed the government's resolve to spare no effort in boosting citizens' welfare amid economic changes and developing disbursement policies of the general budget without affecting citizens' rights and gains.
He pointed out that in line with the directives of HRH the Prime Minister, redirecting the government's subsidy of meat will start in October, adding that registration of eligible families for the subsidy will take place starting from tomorrow via the relevant website.
The aim, he explained, is to gather the needed information during the registration period in preparation for the implementation phase when the needed mechanism is worked out by the joint committee between the government and the legislative branch. He also noted that families registered with the Social Development Ministry and who are receiving monthly aid from it do not need to register again.
Concerning stepping up control of consumption outlets and restaurants after the implementation of the decision which could trigger an increase in prices of food, the minister affirmed that control will continue by the relevant bodies to protect consumers should the decision be carried out or not.
On redirecting subsidy of electricity, water and energy, the Information Minister pointed out that the scheme starts with meat and will include other services. However, he noted there is still no schedule for that as the issue will be discussed by the executive and legislative branches.
Regarding toughening up punishment to crack down on terrorism, the minister said the cabinet approved a memo on a draft law amending Article No. 11 of Law No. 58 for the year 2006 on protecting society from terrorism. According to the amended law, more stringent punishment will be faced by the perpetrators, instigators and promoters of the terrorist ideology.
The Information Minister pointed out the scourge of terrorism in the whole Middle East, adding that at present there are several terrorist groups in Bahrain who are operating under different names. Yet, he affirmed, the government is working hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Interior to ensure that all citizens are safe and enforce justice.
