German Foreign Ministry Provides 30 Million Euros To The Humanitarian Fund In Iraq

Baghdad, Iraq (NINA) -The German Foreign Ministry has donated 30 million euros ($ 34.8 million) to the Humanitarian Fund for Iraq, which is the Consolidated Fund for Assistance to Iraq, led by the Humanitarian Coordinator and managed by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
"We are deeply grateful to the German government and the German people for this very generous contribution," a statement from the UN Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) quoted the humanitarian coordinator for Iraq, Lise Grande, as saying.
She added, "The fund is the backbone of the humanitarian operation in Iraq," she said, adding that "more than 125 projects targeting 4.2 million Iraqis in nine provinces received funding through the Fund in 2017."
"The military campaign against Da'ash is over, but the humanitarian crisis is not over and there are more than 3.3 million displaced Iraqis, hundreds of thousands of whom live in camps and shelters, and they need help," Grande said.
"Our top priorities now are to ensure that people who need them have access, and in the coming months we will work closely with the government so that people can return home safely, voluntarily and generously," she said.
The Humanitarian Fund in Iraq has provided over US $ 70 million to humanitarian partners on the front lines to support the humanitarian operation in Mosul. In October 2017, the Fund allocated US $ 14 million for humanitarian operations in Hawija.
The German government has already provided $ 10.9 million to the Humanitarian Fund in Iraq, bringing Germany's total contribution to the fund to $ 45.7 million./ End
