GCC environment standing committee convenes

Doha, Oct.26 (BNA): The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Standing Committee of the Convention on preservation of wildlife and natural habitats convened for its 15th meeting in Doha, Qatar. The Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Daina led Bahrain’s delegation to the session discussed the conservation of the environment and wildlife in member countries. The delegations discussed a proposal submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain to train GCC negotiators on taking part in international meetings concerned with biodiversity. They also agreed to hold a workshop in Bahrain late this year as part of efforts to draw up a unified system that ensures a fair exchange of genetic resources. Dr. bin Daina urged all countries to enforce the necessary precautionary measures to combat Trafficking in endangered species, listed in the Annexes to the Convention " CITES.
