Former Libyan Prime Minister Jibril says end of Gadhafi must be an example to Assad in Syria

TRIPOLI (A.A) - Former Prime Minister of the Libyan National Transitional Council, Mahmoud Jibril, said Friday that the end of Muammar Gadhafi had to be an example to Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
Speaking to the AA, Jibril said that Assad had to learn that history was written by the people and not administrators.
Asked about why he resigned after Gadhafi was arrested, Jibril said that their plans preceding the revolution was to conduct the revolution as a war for freedom for all Libyans.
In the first stage, the single goal of all Libyans was to get rid of the tyranny regime. However, a political struggle began after Tripoli became free on August 23. I thought that it was too early for a political struggle, Jibril noted.
My hope was to continue with the national war. The transition process is crucial and all Libyans have to be united so we can establish a national congress and a constitution. Once the new constitution gets approved by all Libyans, everyone can then begin their own political struggle, Jibril stressed.
Pointing out that there was no real political culture in Libya, Jibril said that, instead of being the head of a government, he devoted himself to prepare the Libyan people to elections and to protect their rights and goals of the revolution.
Asked if he had any plans to establish a political party, Jibril said that it was too early for him to make a decision on a political party and that he will take his time on that issue.
-"Gadhafi was a black box"-
In response to a question on what he felt when he had heard about the death of Gadhafi, Jibril said that "if Gadhafi was killed by the Libyans, then he got what he deserved".
My personal preference was to put Gadhafi on a fair trial. We, as Libyans, want to find out why we were subjected to pain for 42 years, Jibril underlined.
Gadhafi was a black box with connections to many foreign states and security organizations. I thought that with his trial we could have found out many things, Jibril said.
Asked if the problems between Libyan tribes would pose a problem in the establishing of a new government in Libya, Jibril said that he did not think so.
The tribes in Libya have proven that they have left behind the problems at a historic juncture, Jibril said.
-Libya's sovereignty-
In regard to a question on Libya's biggest problem, Jibril said that Libyan sovereignty was the greatest problem.
National sovereignty is a red line for all Libyans that can not be crossed by any country even if it was a brotherly country. We appreciate the assistance provided during the revolution but the Libyans should determine their future by themselves, Jibril stressed.
-"Libyan economy is in a dead end"-
The second biggest issue in Libya has to do with collecting arms and weapons from the people. Only when security is established, can we begin developing our country and facilitating a normal life for our people, Jibril said.
Many cities in Libya have been completely destroyed. We need to begin working. The Libyan economy is currently in a dead end, Jibril said.
Asked where he wanted to see Libya in 10 years from now, Jibril said that he dreamt of a country in which every human being was equal.
I want to see the Libyans proud of their country that has economically succeeded, Jibril said.
-Warning to Syria-
Asked about what he thought on Syria, Jibril said that he believed that the Syrian president followed the model of Gadhafi.
Gadhafi's arrest and his death should be a teaching example to Assad. Assad has to learn that it is the people who write history and not rulers, Jibril said.
All Syrians have to play a role in the reconstruction of their country. This is a new world, a new global culture. Everyone is tired of dictatorships and tyranny, Jibril said.
-Thanks to Turkish leaders-
Describing Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu as his brothers and the real friends of the Libyan people, Jibril said that he always received help from the Turkish leaders.
The Turkish leaders were with us when we needed them. I thank them all for extending assistance to the Libyan people, Jibril also said.
