Foreign Minister Receives Head Of UNITAD

Baghdad / NINA / - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, reviewed with Christian Richar, the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and head of the International Investigation Team for Accountability for the Crimes of the Terrorist Organization (UNITAD), the tasks entrusted to the international team to support local efforts aimed at holding the terrorist ISIS organization accountable. During his meeting with the UN official, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Minister affirmed support for the mission of the international team in order to achieve the goal of its formation under UN Security Council Resolution (2379) of 2017, and to fulfill its mandate entrusted to it based on the team’s competencies, in full respect for Iraq’s sovereignty and its jurisdiction over crimes committed in its territory. For his part, Christian Richar stressed that the international team will continue to intensify communication and coordination with the competent Iraqi authorities to implement its programs, represented in supporting local authorities to hold the terrorist organization ISIS accountable, capacity building and the use of advanced technology in preserving evidence and archiving, praising at the same time the efforts made by the Iraqi side in facilitating the tasks of the international team.”/ End
