Foreign Minister attends Philanthropic Platform inauguration

New York, Sept. 30 (BNA): Foreign Affairs Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa joined the Saudi Foreign Affairs Minister Adel Al-Jubeir in the inauguration ceremony of the Global Online Philanthropic Platform in New York that coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations. The platform will enable everyone worldwide to donate for the achievement of the new post-2015 sustainable development goals (SDG). Shaikh Khalid reiterated that the launch of the platform ensures the humanitarian and developmental important role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support of the development effort at both regional and international level. Shaikh Khalid underscored that the Saudi initiative is an evidence of how constructive dialogue among youth of different nations, religions and cultures can bring about positive change for global development. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Development Programme had signed a project document on Saturday of January 10 to establish an online philanthropic platform. The initiative is an innovative outcome of the Saudi International Youth Dialogue Forums that were organized in coordination between the government of Saudi Arab and UNDP. The Platform aims to utilize information technology as a new global funding mechanism to channel voluntary philanthropic and citizen contributions from people globally to implement projects that help to achieve the SDGs through a trusted UN and UNDP channel.
