Foreign Minister attends Arab League meeting

Abu Dhabi, Jan. 25 (BNA): The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, took part in a closed meeting by the Ministerial Council of the Arab League held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, at the invitation of the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Shaikh Khalid stressed that the session was part of the continuous meetings to discuss regional and international developments, exchange views on all the issues and find ways to enhance joint Arab action mechanisms and strengthen its institutions and to address the various crises, including violence and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. The meetings also aim to establish advanced and effective foundations for dealing with the various countries in the region in light of the circumstances and developments taking place, consolidating security and stability, and preventing all forms of interference in internal affairs and adherence to the principles of good neighborliness. He said that such consultative meetings among Arab countries was one of the important means to bolster joint Arab interests for positive results and achieving decisive solutions to the challenges facing the countries of the region in general. On the sidelines of the meeting, the minister took part in the committee meeting related to discussing the developments of the crisis with the Islamic Republic of Iran and ways to deal with the Iranian interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries. Present at the meeting were the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adel Al Jubeir, Arab Republic of Egypt Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, and the Arab League Secretary-General, Dr Nabil Al Araby. The meeting was held in implementation of the decision issued by the Arab League’s council meeting at the ministerial level in its extraordinary session held recently at the General-Secretariat in Cairo. The ministers of foreign affairs discussed the mechanism of work of the committee to submit a report with recommendations to the next session of the Arab League council at the ministerial level.
