Foreign Affairs Minister reviews ties with Iraq, Georgia, Sweden, Saint-Vincent-and-the-Grenadines

New York, Sept. 30 (BNA): Foreign Affairs Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa met the Iraqi Foreign Minister, Dr Ibrahim Al Jaafari, on the sidelines of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly, where they discussed the firm historic ties between the two countries and their people as well as political and security developments in Iraq and the region. During the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs renewed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s firm position and keenness on Iraq’s unity, sovereignty and independence, affirming the Kingdom’s support in efforts to combat the Da’esh terrorist organization and bringing peace and security to all parts of Iraq. Dr. Ibrahim Al Jaafari expressed his country’s thanks for the Kingdom of Bahrain’s supportive position towards Iraq and its appreciation to the brotherly ties between the two countries. During a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden, Margot Wallstrom, Shaikh Khalid expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness to bolster bilateral relations and to take steps that result in the progress of ties in various fields for the benefit of the two countries and their people, as well as coordinating on regional and international issues of mutual interest. In the same context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs met Georgian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, where Shaikh Khalid affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain keenness to bolster cooperation with the Republic of Georgia in all fields. Kvirikashvili affirmed his country’s keenness to bolster political and economic relations with the Kingdom of Bahrain, particularly in view of the Kingdom’s progress in various fields. He expressed his country’s hopes to boost cooperation ties to more advanced stages in line with the joint desire to develop relations and the opportunities available to achieve this. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also met with the President of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, and discussed the means of bolstering bilateral ties between the two countries as well as creating prospects for cooperation. They affirmed the importance of exchanging visits between officials from the two countries and establishing the framework and mechanisms to achieve their aspirations and interests as well as develop the friendly relations between them, in addition to cooperation on issues of mutual interest in the United Nations organization.
