Floods remain in Thai North
THAILAND, June 13 (TNA) - Floods have remained in several areas in the Lower Thai North, including those in Pichit and Sukhothai provinces.
In Sukhothai, inundations have particularly remained in Baan Wang Pho of Yang Sai sub-district and in Baan Lad Sai Mul of Tak Phra sub-district, all in Muang district, where local roads and dykes at river banks had collapsed causing widespread floods in the vicinity, including tens of thousands of rice fields. However, the flooding situation has relieved in several other areas, thanks to receding overflows and water levels in the Yom River and a fully-fixed sluice gate at the Wat Koohasawan community in the Muang Sukhothai Thani municipality.
In nearby Pichit, the flooding situation has remained critical, caused by the convergence of the Yom River with rising water from upstream areas and overflows of local canals caused by impacts from flash floods in adjacent Kamphaengpetch province, leading to severe inundations in the Rang Nok locality of Sam Ngam district, as deep as over one metre. To ease the situation, floodwater was being drained into local irrigation canals connecting main Yom and Nan Rivers. (TNA)
