Flooding In Southern Thailand Still Worrisome

BANGKOK, November 27 (TNA) - Although the sky in Thai South is opened Sunday, flooding in the region is still worrisome with authorities of Narathiwat province have declared all the 13 districts of the province disaster zone. Heavy downpours in the province for almost every day last week have inundated houses and farmland, especially those lying on the banks of the three local rivers. Although water levels of the three rivers have started receding, officials of the Emergency Operation Center for Flood, Storm and Landslide have declared all the 13 districts of the province as disaster zone after torrential rain had affected 13,473 households while 30 houses and 56 roads were destroyed. A total of 26 schools in the province are closed after they are under deep floodwaters. In Phatthalung province, floodwaters near Bantad mountain range have started to subside. However, about 3,000 families in several districts, including the provincial seat, have been affected. Water in several areas in Songkhla province, near the Thai-Malaysian border, has receded after rain has stopped. But houses and farmland near Songkhla Lake in Muang district and three other districts are now inundated. The situation in Surat Thani province is also grimed following heavy rains and water runoff which devastated the province for one week continuously, started from last Sunday. Six of its districts were hit, affecting about 19,000 families. (TNA)
