Flooding in Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport to be resolved within couple of days
BANGKOK, November 2 (TNA) - Thai Defence Minister General Yuthasak Sasiprapa said on Wednesday that the government will resolve flooding at Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport by this coming Friday.
General Yuthasak insisted that the Thai government, in cooperation with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the military, needs to dry out floodwater from the Don Mueang Airport by November 4 to restore national image, with several water pumps and more than 10,000 sandbags having been sent to the previous Thai international airport, now catering domestic flights.
According to the defence minister, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has worked around the clock to quickly end the ongoing flooding crisis, the worst in the country's history, the Royal Thai Armed Forces have, therefore, fully supported the government in all policies, with the Royal Air Force now mainly tasked with drying out floodwater and erecting new sandbag dykes to prevent any new flooding at the Don Mueang Airport; while the Royal Thai Army has been well-prepared for back-up operations.
The defence minister revealed that he and Thai Army Commander-in-Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha will inspect repairs at the Klong Sam Wa Sluice in Bangkok's eastern side on Thursday, part of which has broken down, and will deploy troops to expedite the work if considered necessary; while a plan to quickly drain out floodwater on Petchakasem Road, in the capital's western side, to the Ta Chin River will probably be revised as well, if needed.
