Flood waters in northern and central Thailand start to recede
BANGKOK, November 6 (TNA) - While misery remains in Bangkok, flood waters in northern and central Thai provinces begin to recede. The Sirikit dam, meanwhile, starts to reduce the rate of discharge as its water level drops.
In the central province of Ang Thong, floodwaters in many areas are receding. The flood level in Saladaeng Sub-district Sunday dropped to only 80 centimeters from nearly two meters deep last month when a dam had collapsed. Some local people returned home for a cleanup.
Over in the lower northern province of Phitsanulok, everything starts to dry out. But the situations remain critical in low-lying districts of Bang Krathum, Bang Rakam, Prompiram and Muang, where the water levels are at one meter high.
Soldiers, government’s civil workers and the private sectors continue providing aid to flood victims there. They also work to improve the unsanitary water conditions by dropping EM balls to treat the stagnant tainted water.
Meanwhile, the releases from the Sirikit dam Sunday dropped from 18 million cubic meters to 15 million cubic meters per day as the amount of water received into the dam decreased.
The dam is located in Thailand's northern province of Uttaradit. It receives water from Nan river, a tributary of Chao Phraya river which runs through the heart of Bangkok. (TNA)
