Flood situation in Thai South remains critical

BANGKOK, June 10 (TNA) - Thousands of residents in southern Thailand are under evacuation as flooding worsens. Up to 3 metre-high floodwaters are being reported in Pra Saeng district of Surat Thani province, following overflows from nearby Krabi province. Over 70 families have meanwhile, evacuated from Sai Sopa district, where many are still stranded. The heavy monsoon has also affected Phang Nga province, where the entire Ta Kua Pa municipality is close to being submerged under water. Officials say around 2,500 people are now seeking refuge in emergency shelters. Warnings of rapid ‘forest run-off’ and mudslides have also been issued for several areas of Trang province, where the local Trang river has overflowed, inundating the provincial seat. (TNA)
