Flood relief centre for deaf people opened
BANGKOK, November 22 (TNA) - Thailand's National Electronics and Computer Technology Centre (NECTEC) and other concerned agencies have opened a special relief centre for flood-affected deaf people to coordinate assistance for them.
The flood relief centre for the deaf people, jointly set up by NECTEC, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), the National Association of the Deaf in Thailand and other concerned agencies, is located on the 12th floor of the Thai Summit Building in Bangkok.
The centre is specially tasked with receiving assistance requests from the deaf and disseminating updated flood-related information to them, through the short message service (SMS), the multimedia messaging service (MMS), the mobile phone number 088-5044258, video communications on the [www.ttrs.or.th] website and TTRS communication machines, to enable the deaf flood victims to cope with flooding properly and timely.
The flood relief centre for the deaf has received over 500 calls for help so far and has coordinated assistance for 11 affected deaf people. Most callers need necessity bags, boats and vehicles. The relief centre will continue assisting the deaf and people with speech impairment until the situation in all flood-hit Thai areas are relieved. (TNA)
