First Responder workshop concludes
Manama, Apr. 9 (BNA): A training course on First Responder Initial Response to transboundary radioactive accidents has today concluded in Bahrain under the patronage of Public Security Chief Major General Tariq Hassan Al-Hassan.
The Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE) organised the five-day training in cooperation with the Royal Academy of Police (RAP) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). SCE Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina stressed the importance of workshops and specialised courses and forums that address ecological issues and radioactive threats.
He underlined the need to build capabilities so as to safely respond to potential radioactive emergencies and protect people and the environment from any radiations. Public Security Deputy Chief Major-General Naji Al-Hashel underlined the efforts of the Interior Ministry to enhance the performance of its affiliates, stressing the importance of cooperation with the Supreme Council for the Environment to build national capabilities.
In a statement on the sidelines of the closing ceremony, he hailed the outstanding level of participants who took part in the workshop which will contribute to updating First Responding tactics to deal with any potential radioactive and nuclear emergencies.
The five-day workshop was attended by officials representing the General Directorate of Civil Defence, the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Anti-chemical Unit, National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), the Ministry of Health and the Supreme Council for the Environment.
