Final results of Iran parliamentary elections announced at some polling stations

Azerbaijan, Baku, March 4 / Trend T.Jafarov / The final results of parliamentary elections have been announced at some polling stations in Iran, Iranian media reported Sunday. The names of 219 candidates who have successfully overcome the first round of voting, and won seats in parliament are already known. 43 of them are members of the current convocation of the parliament. Five of the 30 MPs who represent Tehran province in the Parliament have already been elected. Another 25 MPs will be elected in the second round of elections from more than 50 candidates. The Iranian parliament consists of 290 members. Prior to the elections, 33 parliamentarians were rejected by Iran's Guardian Council for participation in the upcoming voting. 65% of eligible voters participated in the parliamentary elections in Iran. Over 3,400 candidates compete in the parliamentary elections. The elections take place in 46,062 polling stations. They are held in 14,307 polling stations by using the mobile ballot boxes. According to the law, the parliamentary elections must last 10 hours, but if there is a need, the interior minister may extend the voting time. The election results may be made public in 48 - 72 hours after the election day (from March 2). For the first time, the electronic voting will be widely used in Iran. The electronic voting takes place in the main polling stations of 14 provinces. The main competition in the elections will be between reformers and conservatives, but, according to opposition media outlets, some political parties, groups and representatives from the camp of reformers said they will not participate. According to the information of the Iranian mass media outlets, five conservative parties were formed in Tehran alone: "Jebhe mottahed" (United front of conservators) led by Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi, "Jebhe paydari" (Front of stability of the Islamic Revolution), led by Ayatollah Mohammad Taghi Mesbah Yazdi, "Jebhe istadegy" (Resistance front) led by Mohsen Rezai, "Jebhe sedaye melat" ( 'Voice of the people' front) led by Ali Mutahhari and "Jebhe basiret ve bidari" (Front 'Understanding and Awakening') led by Shahabuddin Sadr. The parliamentary elections in Iran (the Iranian Islamic Consultative Council - Majlis) are held every four years. The parliamentary elections of the VIII convocation were held on March 14, 2008. Ali Larijani is the chairman of Majlis. The first meeting of the Iranian parliament is planned to be held on the seventh date of Khordad month 1391 in Islamic calendar (May 27, 2012). MPs take an oath before the first meeting of the Parliament. Muslim MPs take an oath on the Koran, the representatives of national minorities take an oath on their holy book.
