FANA Conference Resumes Activities in Doha

Doha, November 22 (QNA) - The participants attending the 39th edition conference of the Federation of Arab News Agency (FANA) general assembly which kicked off earlier Monday at the Four Seasons Hotel, resumed their activities Tuesday . During their morning session , the participants including the Directors and chief editors of the Arab news agencies, members of FANA namely Qatar News Agency (QNA) , the host country plus Saudi Arabia (SPA), the Emirates /WAM/ News Agency, Moroccan News Agency( MAP), Egypt ( Middle East News Agency-MENA) , Mauritania, Kuwait (KUNA), Bahrain (BNA), Lebanon, Oman(ONA) Syria (SANA), Jordan(Petra News Agency) ,Qatar(Qatar News Agency), Sudan(SUNA) and Yemen (SABA), renewed the term of dr. Farid Ayar as Secretary General of FANA for the next five years. Two deputies were also elected for the FANA's president Ahmed Saad Al Buanain namely Saudi Arabia (SPA) and Jordanian PETRA news agency, Kuwait, Lebanon, Yemen and Morocco were also elected members in the FANA general secretariat staff. The participants also discussed Qatar News Agency's (QNA) proposal for establishing a regional center for expanding the kid news service which QNA is currently providing, to cover all the Arab countries and to consider QNA represented in QATARKIDS to be a seat for it. The participants also recommended to study appropriate mechanisms for ensuring success of such a proposal on condition the final relevant decision be taken in the next meeting of the FANA's general secretariat slated for the middle of next year 2012. They also discussed the updating of the FANA basic statute to cope with the newest developments at the world media scene. It is to be noted that proposal was included in a working paper presented by Abdullah al Muzaffar, QNA's Chief delegate to the 39th session of the general assembly of the Federation of Arab News Agencies FANA which started in Doha Monday. The participants elected Monday Ahmed Saad Al Buanain President of the FANA for the next two year- term according to the federation's regulations in succession to Editor-in-Chief of Egypt's Middle East News Agency (MENA) Adel Abdulaziz . The FANA conference was also attended by prominent international media figures who also discussed several reports and studies worked out by the arab and foreign specialists on how best to upgrade arab news agencies' modus operandi , their future in the 21st century and the state of the art technological developments affecting their modus operandi. The FANA meetings are to schedule to conclude here later today. (QNA)
