FANA Chief Praises General Assembly Meeting

Doha, November 22 (QNA) - President of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) and Director General of the Qatari News Agency (QNA) Ahmed Saad Al Buainain described the 39th session of the General Assembly of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) as fruitful and constructive, stressing that the directors of the Arab news agencies had discussed over t three days all the issues pertaining to the performance of the Arab news agencies. He added that meetings stressed the need for further enhancing the performance of Arab news agencies and cooperation in all fields. Speaking at a joint press conference with FANA Secretary General Dr. Farid Ayar, Al Buainain noted that the competition and encouraging of hard and dedicated work were behind the main goals of the award which was presented today to the author the best news report by journalist Mona Al Anbari from Qatar News Agency (QNA). He said that the meetings witnessed the signing of an agreement between the Federation of Arab News Agency FANA and the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) with a view to strengthening cooperation in various aspects. In addition to electing Director General of Qatar News Agency (QNA) as President of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA0 Mr. Al Buainian said that the director of the Saudi Press Agency and the Director of the Jordanian news agency have also been elected as deputy presidents of FANA and that the General Secretariat , which includes the addition of the President and his deputies, four new members who are directors of , Morocco, Lebanon, Yemen and Kuwait news agencies. The General Assembly also approved the Secretary-General, Dr Farid Ayar, for an other five years term, he said. He said to specialized meetings held by the Directors of engineering departments in the Arab News Agencies and the proposals that came out, and which were discussed today at the meetings. He said that the 39th session of the Assembly of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) has for the first time seen the participation of delegates from outside the Arab countries to exchange experiences in this field. On Qatar proposal to set up a regional centre for Children Press, Mr. Ahmed Saad Buainain said the topic has been discussed at the request of Qatar news agency , and that directors of Arab news agencies were briefed on the QNA Child website where they were impressed by the idea which he said is the first of its kind in the Arab region, .. He pointed out that Qatar News Agency has requested that this website would be a regional one for all Arab countries, an idea which was welcomed by all participants. He said the matter was referred to the next meeting of the FANA Secretariat General. For his part, Dr. Fared Ayar FANA Secretary-General praised QNA Child provided by the Qatar News Agency, saying it is a great experience and if we seek Arab unity, this step is for unity of the Arab media. " (QNA) Deputy Prime Minister Attends Reception Doha, November 22 (QNA) - HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of Emiri Diwan Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah attended on Tuesday a reception organized by the embassy of Lebanon to mark the 68th anniversary of Lebanon's independence. HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of Emiri Diwan extended his congratulations to the Lebanese ambassador, wishing Lebanon further progress and prosperity. The event was attended by a number of members of the Arab and foreign diplomatic crops and senior officials. (QNA)
