Energy Minister meets GCC water delegation

Manama, Apr. 9 (BNA): Minister of Energy Dr. Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza and Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) Chief Executive Shaikh Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa received a delegation of heads of electricity and water departments in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The delegation consisted of Dr. Mohammed Al-Saud, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Water and Electricity, Saudi Arabia, Dr. Rain Niyadi, Deputy Minister of Energy of the United Arab Emirates and Mohamed Mahrouqi, Head of the Electricity and Water Authority of the Sultanate of Oman along with officials, who were on a visit to Bahrain to take part in a workshop on water strategies. Dr. Mirza welcomed the delegation and was briefed on the findings and recommendations of the workshop as well as the draft comprehensive long-term strategy for water in GCC countries. The minister stressed the importance of creating a unified strategy among GCC countries and reviewed a number of key issues addressed by the institutions responsible for the water sector. He also discussed the water network connectivity between these countries, while praising efforts of those in charge of the workshop. The visitors thanked the minister and officials for the welcoming reception and the hospitality and pledged to work together for the welfare of the people and their joint interests.
