Employment increased, unemployment down in Kyrgyzstan – study

Bishkek, July 19, 2022./Kabar/. The level of employment in Kyrgyzstan has increased, while the unemployment rate has shown decrease. This is evidenced by the results of the survey of household budgets and labor force, conducted by the National Statistics Committee in 2021. According to the survey, in 2021, the labor force aged 15 years and older was about 2.7 million people, including more than 2.5 million employed and over 142 thousand unemployed. Meanwhile, the number of employed people aged 15 and older increased by almost 4 percent compared with 2020, while the number of unemployed decreased by 5 percent. The number of employed men (1.6 million) exceeded the number of employed women (965 thousand). In 2021, the employment rate was 57 per cent, an increase of 0.5 percentage points compared with 2020. The employment rate among men was higher (72.5 percent) than among women (42.4 percent). The unemployment rate was 5.3 percent and decreased by 0.5 percentage points compared to 2020.
