EGAT: Bhumibol Dam remains strong
BANGKOK, December 16 (TNA) - The state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has denied rumours that the Bhumibol Dam, a major dam in the country's northwestern Tak Province, is cracked, affirming that the dam has remained strong and well-maintained despite this year's abundant runoffs.
Director of the EGAT's Public Relations Department Thatree Rewcharoen acknowledged that EGAT experts have checked the Bhumibol Dam and found it remains safe without any crack.
Thatree insisted that the Bhumibol Dam has been well maintained with its all parts inspected weekly, including its walls, tunnels and water drainage systems, and that EGAT inspectors are to report any irregularity immediately if found.
Thatree admitted that water levels in the Bhumibol Dam rose to over 90 percent of its capacity in October 2011, when the EGAT teams even inspected the dam on the daily basis. (TNA)
