Dr. Al-Qahtanir Re-elected Chairman of the Regional Committee for Middle East Animal Health

Doha, June 09 (QNA) - The General Assembly of the World Organization for Animal Health (UNOG) has re-elected Dr. Qassem Al-Qahtani, Director of the Animal Wealth Department at the Ministry of Environment, as Chairman of the UNOG Regional Committee for Animal Health in the Middle East during his participation in the Organization's 80th meetings held recently in the French capital Paris. The Delegation of the State of Qatar to the meetings included representatives from the Departments of Animal Wealth and Fisheries at the Ministry of the Environment. The meetings featured elections to choose heads of regional committees representing all the Organization 172 member states. The meeting unanimously re-elected Dr. Al-Qahtani for a second three-year chairmanship term of the Regional Committee for Animal Health for the Middle East, in a new achievement for the State of Qatar in recognition of its efforts in maintaining animal health. Dr. Al-Qhatani was elected as president of the Committee for the first time in May 2009 during the participation of Qatar's delegation in the meetings of the plenary session number (77) of the International Committee of the World Organization for Animal Health in Paris . The UNOG Regional Committee for the Middle East, one of five regional commissions set up by UNOG to solve the problems of veterinary authorities in the region and organize cooperation between the region's 20 member states at the regional level. Elections for the chair of the Regional Committee, which consists of a Chairman, two Vice-Chairmen and Financial Secretary, are held every three years. Coordination is made between the Regional Committee and the Organization's Regional Office in Beirut to serve the region in all aspects related to animal health.(QNA
