Don Mueang Airport to reopen on April 1, 2012

BANGKOK, December 19 (TNA) - Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport, which has been flooded for over a month, is undergoing rehabilitation and will resume its services on April 1, 2012, according to Airports of Thailand Public Limited Company (AOT). AOT president Anirut Thanomkulabut said on Monday both eastern and western runways of the airport have passed strength tests conducted by the Highway Department and that AOT could, therefore, focus on repairing public utilities and relevant systems at the airport. Asked if the low-cost carrier Nok Air and Orient Thai, which have moved their services temporarily to Suvarnabhumi Airport due to floods, would shift back to the old-international airport, Anirut said that the decision rest with them. Meanwhile, the AOT organized a ‘Big Cleaning Day’ activity at its headquarters in Don Mueang district on Monday. The head office was flooded for one and a half month and the restoration was estimated to cost about 20 million baht. (TNA)
