Doha Centre for Media Freedom to Mark World Press Freedom Day
Doha, April 25 (QNA) - The Doha Centre for Media Freedom is set to celebrate World Press Freedom Day in Qatar, Libya and Tunisia from May 1 to May 6.
Starting in Doha, the DCMF will host a three-hour celebration at Qatar National Convention Centre, open to public, from 6 pm until 9 pm.
The event will begin with the opening of a cartoon gallery, by curators at the DCMF, including illustrations from the Sudanese, Doha-based artist Khalid Albaih.
DCMF director Jan Keulen will open with a speech at 6:30 and then Mohammed Fahad Kamal, Qatar's famous comedian, will entertain crowds with his first ever performance in the Arabic language.
Panel discussions and debates will start at 7 pm and will include some of the region's most famous commentators.
On May 3, the official annual date reserved on the calendar to celebrate press freedom, teams from the DCMF will represent Qatar in Tripoli and Tunis, the north African city which has been chosen to host UNESCO's global event.
In Libya, where the DCMF is already active, the Centre will mark the occasion by ramping up its training courses offered to journalists.
As part of the DCMF's involvement In Tunisia, Rania Khaled Al Hussaini of the Media Literacy department will be taking four students from Qatar University to Tunis receive newsroom training. (QNA)
