Development Planning Releases Human Development Report III

Doha, January 28 (QNA) - The General Secretariat for Development Planning has released the Human Development Report III, which focuses this year on strengthening the capacity of Qatari youths and their integration into the development process and monitoring the main opportunities and challenges facing this important class of society. The Report was prepared by the General Secretariat for Development Planning in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), came after extensive consultations with certain bodies, including the young people themselves, ministries and government organizations, the private sector, the civil society and local and international experts. The report underlined the importance of establishing a unified central body for youth affairs to coordinate the preparation and implementation of the "national policy for youth development", including programmes for their development across sectors in order to expand their capabilities and to integrate them in the development process. The report addresses five major challenges facing the Qatari youth namely the demographically, socially and economically changing surrounding, knowledge-building and skills development, enhancement of their participation in the workforce, improvement of their health, well-being and empowerment, and strengthening their civil participation. The report identifies the main human development opportunities and challenges facing young Qatari people and focuses on the youth in a rapidly changing environment and on their education and employment, health and well-being just as focused on empowerment and civic participation.
