Culture Ministry to set aside over Bt600mln to revive flooded monuments
BANGKOK, November 8 (TNA) - Thailand’s Culture Ministry plans to disburse over 600 million baht into restoring historic monuments hit by this year’s floods.
Speaking at Government House on Tuesday, Culture Minister Sukumol Kunplume said initial restoration will focus on cleaning up and improving flood-damaged landscape in order to kickstart local tourism soonest.
Furthermore, Sukumpol said an estimated 1,473 million baht will also be set aside for long-term flood-prevention plans to be later implemented at each site.
Besides, Sukumol said countries such as the Netherlands, Italy, Japan and India will send rehabilitation experts to Thailand at the end of November to help local authorities conduct researches on the ancient structures to reduce negative effects of flooding in a sustainable way.
She added that Germany has also contributed funds worth 100,000 Euros towards the cause. (TNA)
