CULTURAL, SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES UP 2.3 P.C. IN TURKEY



ANKARA (A.A) - 23.07.2010 - Cultural and scientific activities were up 2.3 percent in Turkey in 2009, the statistical board said on Friday.
Turkey's statistical board, TurkStat, made public the results of its survey on cultural and scientific activities in Turkey in 2009, and said such activities were up 2.3 percent to 36,055 last year.
Cultural and scientific activities in Turkey totaled 35,246 in 2008.
The share of universities in cultural and scientific activities was up to 36.7 percent from 36.4 percent in 2009. 
Scientific activities consisted 44 percent of the overall activities in Turkey in 2009. 15,861 scientific activities were organized in 2009. 
The number of people participating in cultural and scientific activities was down 5.8 percent to 48.1 million year-on-year in 2009.
Around 17.5 million people joined festivals in 2009. 94.5 percent of activities in Turkey in 2009 were free of charge.
