Crown Prince meets TRA board of directors

Manama, Oct.27 (BNA) His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, today met the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, His Excellency Kamal bin Ahmed, and the Board of Directors of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), at Gudaibiya Palace. During the meeting, His Royal Highness highlighted the pioneering role the Kingdom has played in developing telecommunications in the region over the past decade, as highlighted recently when the International Telecommunications Union presented His Royal Highness the Prime Minister with the Award for Sustainable Development in ICT. His Royal Highness directed the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications and the TRA to complete the fourth National ICT Sector Development Plan as quickly as possible, and emphasised that further expanding the ICT sector is a key priority within the government’s economic strategy. His Royal Highness also stressed that the government and the TRA should prioritise innovative ICT policies that foster sustainable competition within the market. His Royal Highness added that the successful development of Bahrain’s ICT sector has been underpinned by private sector participation and investment, which has enhanced competition and driven up standards for consumers. His Royal Highness concluded by emphasising the importance of administering the ICT sector according to principles of fairness, transparency, and independence to protect consumers’ interests. The TRA Board of Directors welcomed the importance His Royal Highness attaches to the Kingdom’s ICT sector, and reiterated their commitment to working with the government to develop the sector further..
