Compostable Plastic Bags to Be Distributed at Thai Red Cross Fair
BANGKOK, Nov 14 (TNA) – Compostable plastic bags will be distributed for food waste at the annual Red Cross Fair, held under the green concept this year.
The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) and Thai Bioplastics Industry Association (IBIA) has debuted compostable plastic bags for organic waste, the innovation, developed by researchers.
MTEC director, Dr. Julathep Kajornchaikul said MTEC and the private sector developed bioplastic formulation, using cassava starch.
Dr. Noppadon Kerddonfag, MTEC Plastics Technology Research Team said the newly- developed compostable plastic bags with 10-kg loading weight take about 1-3 months to decompose fully.
13,000 compostable plastic bags will be distributed to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and agencies concerned for use in the annual Red Cross fair, which will be held at Lumpini Park from November 15-24. (TNA)
