Committee Ready for London's 'Shard Tower' Inauguration Ceremony

Doha, July 02 (QNA) - HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani will inaugurate next Thursday the Shard Tower in London, the tallest multi-service development of its kind in Western Europe. The State of Qatar is a majority investor with 95% of the state-of-the-art project, which is considered to be a major investment for the State. The Duke of York Prince Andrew Albert Edward, UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, in addition to GCC diplomatic mission heads, and a number of prominent personalities from the UK are expected to attend the opening ceremony. Other dignitaries expected to attend the ceremony include Sheikh Abdullah bin Saoud Al Thani, Governor of Qatar Central Bank and Chairman of the board of directors of the Shard Funding Limited, HE Qatar's Ambassador to the UK Khalid Rashid Salem Al-Homoudi Al-Mansouri, as well as a number of senior officials and personalities from the State. The organizing committee responsible for the ceremony has finalized preparations for the launch of the tower, located at London Bridge Quarter on the South Bank of the Thames river. The opening ceremony is due to include a documentary recounting the stages leading towards the completion of the project in addition to laser shows in celebration of this major happening. An orchestra will also present a performance following the inauguration. The Tower will consist of the capital's highest public viewing gallery offering 360 views of the City of London. Shard Tower is the tallest building in Western Europe standing at 309.6m, with 72 floors consisting of residential apartments, offices, signature restaurants, and the 5-Star Shangri-La hotel. (QNA)
