Close monitoring remains for flooding in Bangkok

BANGKOK, November 14 (TNA) - Flood concerns have remained in Bangkok's western areas, especially in Bang Khun Thian District, where water has kept rising; while close monitoring has continued in the capital's eastern side. Flood water levels in almost all areas of Don Mueang District have been reportedly receding, instead, by 30-40 centimetres; while those at the Lat Phrao and the Ratchayothin Intersections have dropped by some 10 centimetres on average, although flood water in front of the Central Lat Phrao Department Store has remained over 30 centimetres deep and on Lat Phrao Road connecting to the Lat Phrao Intersection has remained 10-20 centimetres deep, passable slowly for small vehicles now. Similarly, flood water on the Phahonyothin Road has been obviously receding, especially in front of the Department of Land Transport, with its left lane now being submerged by only 5-10 centimetres; while the Ratchadaphisek Road has remained 10-20 centimetres under flood water. However, flooding has been expanding in some areas in eastern Bangkok, as the Lam Sali Canal has been overflowing to the Krungthep Kreetha Road, particularly from its intersection with Srinagarindra Road to a bridge crossing over the Lam Sali Canal where flood water has been 5-10 centimetres deep. Flooding has also been first observed in some communities in the Bang Kapi District. Growing concerns have, meanwhile, been reported in western Bangkok, as floodwater has kept rising in Bang Khun Thian District and on the Rama II Road, where communities have now been submerged by some 30 to almost 100 centimetres deep, forcing local people to begin evacuating to unaffected areas.
