City of London Mayor Announces Investment Partnerships with Qatar

Doha, March 02 (QNA) - Lord Mayor of the City of London Alderman Roger Gifford revealed that his two-day visit to Doha has resulted in several investment opportunities that will be addressed in the future. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA) on Saturday, Gifford said the aim of his visit was to explore investment opportunities, especially those related to Qatar's hosting of the 2022 World Cup, the Doha Metro and also the possibility of cooperation with Qatar Financial Centre (QFC). The visit also came in support for British firms to have economic cooperation with Qatar, with London being one of the world's largest financial centers and QFC experiencing constant growth, Gifford said. The Lord Mayor of the City of London also praised the economic relations between Britain and Qatar, noting that he could see more development during his visit, with the increase of British nationals in Doha being a clear sign. He anticipated these numbers to increase and British firms to have more presence, particularly those offering legal, financial, training and education services. Gifford said the Qatari economy is growing at a great pace, adding that City of London has been monitoring the developments in Qatar that started nearly 20 years ago. The visit of the City of London's mayor to Doha was his last step in a Gulf tour to showcase Britain's status in the region. He serves as the global ambassador for UK-based financial and business services. He was accompanied by a commercial delegation active in a number of sectors including accountancy, law, investment management and education. (QNA)
