China May Have Opened Police Stations in Japan, Other Nations
Tokyo, Dec. 19 (Jiji Press)--A report by a Spanish human rights watchdog shows that Chinese authorities may have established police service stations overseas, including in Japan, Japan's Foreign Ministry said Monday.
The ministry has warned China that any infringement on Japan's sovereignty would be absolutely unacceptable, officials said.
The Spanish watchdog's report said that there are two Chinese police service stations in Japan, according to the ministry.
The one located in Tokyo is run by the public security bureau of Fuzhou, Fujian Province, while the other was opened at an unknown location by the public security bureau of Nantong, Jiangsu Province.
The report said that Chinese police stations abroad do not respect sovereignty and that their activities may have led to potential human rights violations, including surveillance and intimidation of overseas Chinese citizens, according to the ministry.
The Chinese government has denied the allegations, claiming that such overseas offices help Chinese people abroad who are unable to return to China due to the COVID-19 pandemic to undergo physical examinations necessary to renew their driver's licenses, the report said.
