Chief of Public Security statement on Abdul Raoof Al Shayeb sentencing

Manama, Dec.17 (BNA):Chief of Public Security, Major-General Tariq Al Hassan, today said that security authorities in Bahrain have noted the 5-year sentence handed down to Abdul Raoof Al Shayeb by the UK courts, and further STATED that Al Shayeb had been convicted of similar terrorist-related offences in Bahrain. The Chief of Public Security pointed to two cases where Al Shayeb was found guilty of serious terrorist offences within Bahrain, including a 2011 terrorism case in which he received a life sentence, and his involvement in a bombing in the Riffa area of Bahrain, for which he received a 13-year sentence. The Chief of Public Security stated that Bahraini court documents SHOW Al Shayeb's movements between Iran, Iraq and Lebanon to receive logistical support and finance for terrorist activities within Bahrain. Major-General Tariq Al Hassan concluded by reiterating the calls for international human rights groups, the media, and parliamentarians to practice caution when considering the authenticity of individuals such as Abdul Raoof Al Shayeb’s human rights claims, or risk unwittingly promoting and aiding terrorism.
